Welcome Dragon Nation ~ we are NACOGDOCHES STRONG!

This school year will follow one of the most successful in our district’s history. We had a record number of students graduate from Nacogdoches High School and Malcolm Rector Technical High School, with more than $4.5 million dollars of scholarships awarded to our graduates. Our high school programs continue to be top ranked in the state. I want to acknowledge and recognize the significant accomplishments of our students and faculty this past year and celebrate their success last year:

Girl’s Basketball  3rd in District and played in Bi-District playoff game
Boy’s Basketball  District, Bi-District, Area Champions
Boy’s Cross Country  3rd in District with 8 Regional Qualifiers
Girl’s Cross Country    2nd in District with 6 regional qualifiers
 Powerlifting  3 Regional Qualifiers
 Boy’s Soccer  District, Bi-District Champions
Boy’s Swimming  District Champions, 6th in Region
Girl’s Swimming   District Champions, 9th in Region, 1 swimmer to   State
Meet Boy’s Track  13 Area qualifiers, 5 regional qualifiers
Girl’s Track  7 Area Qualifiers,  4 regional qualifiers

This is a testimony to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of our parents. That work must continue. Nacogdoches STRONG is a commitment, a determination, a “can-do, will-do” spirit that never gives up but believes and achieves!

As we welcome back almost 6,500 students, this will be a great year at Nacogdoches ISD – because we are NACOGDOCHES STRONG! We have hired some outstanding, experienced and talented employees who will join our team, and we will be a team of more than 1,000 employees in 2017-2018. Our team is excited about the privilege of working with your children, and we have been busy this summer in preparations for the coming year. Teams have worked on improving and expanding curriculum resources and instructional strategies; educators have participated in training and workshops to continue their own learning as part of our ongoing commitment to provide your children with the best educational experience possible.

Nacogdoches students are STRONG! We expect our students to perform at a higher level inside and outside the classroom. While meeting these high academic standards, we also expect our students to achieve great success in their extracurricular activities while involving themselves in service to their community.

These expectations include our parents, who we encourage to take an active role in their child’s education. Our Dragon families are STRONG! We are confident that these expectations will be met, because at Nacogdoches ISD we have strong tradition of Dragon pride and excellence, along with a supportive community working with us to recognize student achievement.

While we move forward in this year, Nacogdoches ISD will be focusing even more on educating every student. We will continue to work at opening the world to our students who need to be prepared for whatever path they choose upon graduation. Many of the jobs of tomorrow do not even exist today and we must expand the walls of the classroom and meet the unique needs of each of our students as they develop skills to be competitive and compassionate.

One of the biggest factors in the overall success of our students and our district is our ability to work in partnership with our parents and the community. We hope that you feel welcome in our schools and that you will become involved in the many things that are taking place.
