Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language Nominated for Blue Ribbon Honors

Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language is one of 26 schools in Texas nominated for the 2018 National Blue Ribbon School Award. It’s a noteworthy accomplishment, and Nacogdoches ISD wants to celebrate.

A number of events are planned to recognize this achievement. On Monday, Jan. 22, special lunch and snacks will be provided for teachers throughout the day. A special student celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the Nettie Marshall cafeteria. At 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, a parent meeting will be held at the school’s cafeteria to discuss items regarding Nettie Marshall.

Outstanding dedication and performance from both students and teachers helped push Nettie Marshall to the top of the list of Texas public schools. Nettie Marshall is one of 13 schools across the state honored for “achievement-gap-closing.”

“We’re thrilled for what the students and teachers at Nettie Marshall have been able to accomplish, and we look forward to an amazing celebration on Tuesday,” said Nacogdoches ISD Superintendent Sandra Dowdy. “It’s a wonderful accomplishment for students, teachers and staff.”

All schools on the list have an economically disadvantaged population of 39 percent or greater, according to Texas Education Agency.

Nettie Marshall and the other nominated schools must now complete a rigorous application process through the U.S. Department of Education. Announcements of the national award winners will be made in September.

Founded in 1982, Blue Ribbon Schools is a U.S. Department of Education program that recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at high levels or where remarkable progress has been made toward closing achievement gaps among subpopulations while maintaining high levels among all students.
