Dr. Daya D. Hill, Ed.D., was named Chief Academic Officer for Nacogdoches ISD during Thursday’s meeting of the Board of Trustees. Hill comes to NISD from Pine Tree ISD in Longview where she was Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. Hill previously served in a similar capacity at Center ISD.

“Dr. Hill is a tremendous addition to our team,” NISD Interim Superintendent Alton Frailey said. “Her experience in curriculum and instructional models will prove invaluable to our district.”

Hill has a long career in public education. She taught math and science in Texarkana ISD and also served as a dance teacher. She became an Academic Advisor at Texas High School in Texarkana and was later Coordinator of Secondary Student Services.

Hill was an Educational Improvement Consortium Coach with Texas A&M-Texarkana for two years, where she was responsible for providing professional development to area school district students, focusing on improving achievement in the area of math, specifically for English Language Learners.

She spent three years as an assistant principal in New Boston ISD before being named in 2009 Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction with Center ISD. In 2013, Hill was named Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment at Pine Tree ISD where she fulfilled a number of duties, including monitoring and evaluating PTISD’s written, taught and tested curriculum in all instructional areas.


Dr. Rom Crespo, Ed.D., was named principal at Nacogdoches High School during Thursday’s meeting of the NISD Board of Trustees.

Crespo is currently Assistant Principal at Katy ISD’s Patricia E. Paetow High School, a new campus that opened last August. Prior to that, Crespo served for three years as Coordinator of Katy ISD’s Parent & Patron Assistance Center, where he was part of the district’s School and Community Engagement Department.

Crespo served as assistant principal at Taylor High and Morton Ranch High schools in Katy ISD and was also an assistant principal at Alief Hastings High School.

“Dr. Crespo has spent years providing valued leadership in Katy ISD,” NISD Interim Superintendent Alton Frailey said. “He’s also relationship driven and is dedicated to working with and assisting parents to address their concerns.”

Crespo began his career in public education as a Spanish teacher at Klein Intermediate School in Houston. At Jersey Village High School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Crespo was a Spanish teacher and an assistant coach with the freshmen football team.

At John H. Reagan High School in Houston ISD, Crespo taught Spanish and was varsity defensive line coach for the football team. At Fort Bend ISD’s I.H. Kempner High School, Crespo was the head freshmen football coach and a Spanish Teacher. At George Bush High School in Fort Bend ISD, Crespo was a Spanish teacher and administrative intern before being named Assistant Principal at Alief Hastings High School.

Dr. Joseph Rodriguez, Ed.D., was named Principal at Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language during Thursday’s Nacogdoches ISD Board of Trustees meeting.

Rodriguez has been serving as District Compliance Coordinator for English as a Second Language with Spring ISD near Houston.

Rodriguez previously served as Spring ISD’s ESL Coordinator for Secondary Schools and was an Assistant Principal/Special Programs Coordinator at Huntsville High School.

“Dr. Rodriguez is going to be a great fit at Nettie Marshall,” said NISD Interim Superintendent Alton Frailey. “His skill set will be perfect for the dual language program at that campus.”

Rodriguez began his public education career in 1994 as a seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher at Albright Middle School in Alief. From 2001 to 2013, Rodriguez was a teacher and soccer coach at Conroe High School, where in his last year he served as an administrative intern before being named Assistant Principal in Huntsville.

Before entering college and becoming a teacher, Rodriguez was a Medical Specialist in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Sergeant.
