Outstanding Teacher of the Deaf

Nacogdoches ISD’s Ami Cecil was honored over the summer by the Texas Association of Parents and Educators for the Deaf as the 2018 Outstanding Teacher of the Deaf. She was recognized in July during the Statewide Conference for Education of The Deaf/Hard of Hearing.

Cecil spends much of the instructional day at McMichael Middle School but travels to other NISD campuses to serve students.

Cecil’s award is not the first time NISD Deaf Education staff has been honored by the organization. Rachel Rosson is a past Teacher of the Year, and Kayla Hughes has been a Supervisor of the Year. The district has had six scholarship recipient winners during the last eight years.
