Constitution Day

The Nacogdoches Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its annual Constitution Day bell ringing this morning at the Old Nacogdoches University Building adjacent to Thomas J. Rusk Elementary School.

Nacogdoches ISD interim Superintendent Alton Frailey provided a welcome for those attending; the building is owned by NISD. Students from TJR were also on hand for the bell-ringing.

Following a brief ceremony held in front of the Old University Building, the bell rang 231 times to signify the number of years since the U.S. Constitution was written during a convention in 1787.

The week of Sept. 17 is Constitution Week in the United States.
