Nacogdoches ISD students begin taking the 2019 STAAR exams (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) this week and will continue taking the tests periodically through the middle of May.

Passing rates on STAAR exams play a large role in ratings assessed to public school districts and campuses in Texas.

On Tuesday, April 9, students will be tested in fourth-grade writing, fifth-grade math, seventh-grade writing and eighth-grade math. Also on Tuesday, STAAR end-of-course exams will be given to students taking English I at Nacogdoches High School.

On Wednesday, April 10, fifth- and eighth-graders will be tested in reading. English II students at NHS will take their end-of-course exam on Thursday, April 11.

STAAR testing will pick pack up the week of May 13 with math and reading tests for students in third-, fourth-, sixth- and seventh-grades. Math and reading retests for students in fifth- and eighth-grades will also take place that week.

Fifth- and eighth-graders will take STAAR science tests that same week, and eighth-graders will take a social studies test.

Beginning the week of May 6 and continuing through May 17, NHS students will take STAAR end-of-course exams in Algebra I, Biology, U.S. History, English III and Algebra II.
