In Journalism classes, students work out of the text book, "Journalism Matters." In addition to learning about the journalism, students receive copies of "The Daily Sentinel" Monday through Friday, and copies of "Upfront" magazine bi-weekly. Students read and respond to these journalistic publications through discussions and our class blog. In newspaper, students produce "The Dragon Echo," which is published four times a year. The newspaper Web site, www.thedragonecho.com, is updated several times each week. The NHS yearbook, "Book N," is the only written history of the school year. Students provide coverage of the year through photography and stories. Creative Writing is a new class at NHS this year. Students work through six units: poetry; creative writing as it relates to other art forms; short stories and narratives; children's literature; oral histories and advertising. The students' best work will be published at the end of the year in a literary magazine, and showcased regularly on this Web site. |
