Emergency Services Day set for NHS

Emergency crews, including ambulances, fire trucks and two medical helicopters, will descend on Nacogdoches High School around 9 a.m. Nov. 15.

The Emergency Services Day will provide a learning experience for students in the NHS Health Science courses, part of the high school’s Career & Technical Education program.

Fire trucks and ambulances will show up at 8:50 a.m. on the backside of the school along Maroney Drive. Around 9:15 a.m., the medical helicopters will land on the practice soccer fields located nearby.

“This visit will give our health science students a chance to experience a connection and gain a better understanding of the emergency medical services that are provided by each department,” said NHS Health Science Instructor Coy L. Van Valkenburgh. “Our students and staff are extremely excited about this opportunity.”

Agencies participating on Nov. 15 include, Nacogdoches County EMS, Nacogdoches Fire & Rescue, PHI Med 11 of Lufkin and Air Rescue 2 of Crockett.

During the morning, NHS health science students will have an opportunity to talk with responders and examine the equipment and units. The agencies are also planning a demonstration for students.
