“Return of the Nac” is the mantra this year for Nacogdoches ISD.

During Thursday’s convocation, interim Superintendent Alton Frailey said the district is already on the rebound and “great things” are happening all around us.

He then unveiled a T-shirt that was presented to all NISD employees. The T-shirt displayed “Return of the Nac” along with the face of an emerging dragon.

T-shirt sponsors included Newks, Southside Bank, Kenco, Charles Pool Real Estate, Party & Things, Whataburger and Elliott Electric.

Frailey served as the keynote speaker at Thursday’s convocation held in the main competition gym at Nacogdoches High School.

Brad Maule served as emcee of the event. Maule, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, was a 22-year veteran of the TV show “General Hospital” (as Dr. Tony) and was twice nominated for a Daytime Emmy before returning to Nacogdoches.

The morning began with a vendor fair before the convocation. Vendors that had tables Thursday and donated door prizes included: Party N Things/Space Walk of East Texas, Luquette Chiropractic, Texas AFT, Spirit Outfitters, Southside Bank, Whataburger, United Way, M&S Pharmacy, McWilliams and Son, Deluxe Dental, Commercial Bank of Texas, ATPE, Tenet Health/Nacogdoches Medical Center, Great Clips, Cataract Glaucoma Cornea of East Texas, Bancorp South, Nacogdoches Public Library, KSWP/KAVX Radio, Crisis Center of Lufkin/Nacogdoches and the career and technology department of Nacogdoches High School.
