Lee Container Corp. donated $10,000 to Nacogdoches ISD on April 21, money that can be used by the school district to offset costs associated with its response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Since in-person classes were first suspended in March, NISD has implemented an online and paper packet distance learning model, while the district’s Student Nutrition Department has continued to provide students thousands of meals each week. NISD has also continued to pay all employees during the extended closure.

“On behalf of our students and staff, this gift is absolutely a tremendous contribution that will go a long way in supporting the unprecedented dynamics of meeting our frontline needs,” said NISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo. “I can’t thank Lee Container enough for this extremely generous donation.”

Georgia-based Lee Container operates three facilities, including the one here in Nacogdoches. The firm produces blow-molded plastic containers for a number of industrial and commercial uses.

“The Coronavirus pandemic has made life difficult for all of us, including families, workers and schools,” said Robert Varnedoe, President of the company. “Lee Container felt a strong desire to help NISD by making a contribution because there is nothing more important than the wellbeing of our children.”
