NISD marks School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week is Feb. 3-7, and Nacogdoches ISD is recognizing the unique contribution of school counselors within public education in the United States. This group of dedicated, caring professionals go above and beyond what’s required for our students, staff and community.
School counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents and work in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world. The combination of their training and experience makes school counselors an integral part of the total education program.
NISD has 19 counselors spread around its 10 campuses. Cindy Ivy heads up the district’s Guidance and Counseling Department.
Counselors in the district include:

  • Danielle Bowser at Brooks-Quinn-Jones Elementary School.
  • Dawn Arvello and Almetrice Cotton at Emeline Carpenter Elementary.
  • Kristin Powers and Jillian Wilson at Fredonia Elementary.
  • Diane Brister at Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language.
  • Destiny Green at Raguet Elementary.
  • Samantha Burrow at Thomas J. Rusk Elementary.
  • Monica Starovic and Crystal Adams at McMichael Middle School.
  • Holli Snyder and Aimee Lucena at Mike Moses Middle School.
  • Dottie McClain, Nicole Allbee, Tina Clifton, April Grady, Courtney Marshall and Tennille Williams at NHS.
  • Kendra Welch at Malcolm Rector Technical High School.
