NISD crews complete projects during holiday break

Nacogdoches ISD Plant Services crews spent much of the Christmas holiday working on projects in the district. The department takes advantage of buildings being vacant to either catch up on or complete projects that could not be tended to while staff and students are in class.

The only days where work did not take place were Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 2.

Some of the work completed included continuation of projects started last summer that were put on hold once schools opened in August for the new academic year. Other projects are related to bond-funded new construction, such as Emeline Carpenter Elementary, or renovation and expansion of existing facilities.

At Mike Moses Middle School, roof repair and replacement was a continuation of a project that began last summer. Also at Mike Moses, fence work was completed ahead of the conversion of that campus to an elementary school. By completing the fence over the Christmas break, the amount of work scheduled for the upcoming summer months has been lessened.

The district’s Malcolm Rector Center for Advanced Careers and Innovation is nearing completion in areas that are under renovation. The district moved into the new facility that fronts Maroney Drive last fall, but existing CTE facilities are now being expanded and renovated.

Over the holiday break, a canopy on the backside of the existing construction at the high school was completed that will provide additional storage area for CTE classes.

At McMichael Middle School, the cafeteria roll-down door was installed while new cement pads were poured in men’s and women’s locker rooms. Work also continued on the roof at the campus (where an expansion project is nearing completion) and on the school’s HVAC system.

Plant Services crews completed some in-house work on the HVAC system at Nacogdoches High School, while the plumbing staff changed out a valve on a chiller located at the campus.

Carpentry crews are nearing completion of finish work at the new Emeline Carpenter Elementary School. That includes the learning stairs located in the center of the campus and in the library in addition to work on flooring.

District-wide, groundskeeping crews cleaned up leaves around schools and facilities.

NISD’s custodial staff conducted a deep-cleaning of all the district’s campuses. Additionally, all gymnasium floors in the district were refinished.
