No break for NISD Plant Services

While Nacogdoches ISD students and staff enjoyed Thanksgiving break last week, the district Plant Services Department kept right on working.

“With students and teachers on holiday, we could address work orders that otherwise would be difficult to handle with a building full of people,” said Ralph LaRue, NISD’s Director of Plant Services.

The district’s custodial staff sanitized facilities and focused on larger cleaning projects. The HVAC crew cleaned the cooling tower at Nacogdoches High School, and the district’s warehouse was emptied and new shelving and racks were installed.

Sections of wall were repaired at the ninth-grade building at NHS and at Fredonia Elementary. New electrical service was extended to the gym at Raguet Elementary.

And it wasn’t only NISD crews at work last week in the district. Hellas Construction Inc. continued finishing up installation of artificial turf at the baseball and softball fields at NHS. (New underground electrical service for the baseball batting cage was unable to be completed.) E3 Entegral Solutions, the contractor that installed LED lighting throughout the district, finished up work in some campus gyms.

The two-week Christmas break will provide more opportunity for project completion, LaRue said. A job list is being developed for the break that lasts two weeks, and projects are being lined up for Spring Break next March. Also, LaRue said a major HVAC project is out to bid now with the majority of work taking place next summer.
