Principal search process ongoing at NHS

The search process continues for the next principal at Nacogdoches High School.

Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo said Monday that Nacogdoches ISD is appraising applicants for the position while moving forward to fill the vacancy that was created last August shortly before the school year started.

“We will have that person in place by the start of this summer,” Trujillo said. “That will allow them to spend the summer getting to know their staff and preparing for the start of the 2021-22 academic year.”

The final day of classes for NISD is May 28; the next school year begins Aug. 23.

Trujillo said naming a new high school principal is always an important and exciting time for a district. “This individual will complement our direction and the promise of our high school and the district.”

On Monday, Trujillo shared his appreciation of interim principal Dr. Kenneth Matthews for his ongoing leadership and stability to students, staff, and various departments of the high school.

“I’m grateful for the work he, alongside our teachers and staff, have done,” said Trujillo. “This all took place during an unprecedented time, and our staff’s collective efforts have helped keep our momentum going forward in the midst of a pandemic full of limitations.

“The principal selected to lead our Dragons at Nacogdoches High School will be truly fortunate in taking the helm of a campus that did not waver in maintaining its trajectory of excellence and academic opportunities for each and every student.”
