Textbook Adoptions
The State Board of Education (SBOE) uses a proclamation to call for new instructional materials or new information about currently adopted materials. The proclamation lists the subject areas and grade levels or courses scheduled for review, important deadlines, requirements of publisher participation, and instructions for providing electronic files for braille and large-print materials. Proclamations are named for the year the materials go into the classroom.
Districts may use state funds to purchase adopted or non-adopted materials. However, the advantages of purchasing adopted materials are that districts will know the extent to which the materials cover the TEKS, the materials will be available without cost to districts for students with print disabilities, they will be available at an established cost for at least eight years, and they can be easily and conveniently ordered through the state’s online instructional materials ordering system (EMAT).
