Because Nice Matters

Nacogdoches ISD believes that we all can make the choice to be nice to others.

During the 2013-14 year, we will be focusing on one character trait each month:

  • September 2013 - Courage
  • October 2013 - Honor
  • November 2013 - Wisdom
  • December 2013 - Joy
  • January 2014 - Knowledge
  • February 2014 - Courtesy
  • March 2014 - Forgiveness
  • April 2014 - Humility – Tell us why humility is important!
  • May 2014 - Endurance

Please join us in our effort to make Nacogdoches an even nicer place to live, work and study!

NISD Library Showcase – February and March

Nacogdoches ISD hosts first Egg Hunt
Nacogdoches children and their families enjoyed an egg hunt and hot dog lunch at Maroney Park on Saturday, April 12.

The event resulted from the work and planning of four Nacogdoches ISD departments. Wanting to offer a community event, leaders in transportation, student nutrition, plant services and student support services pooled resources and sought out donations for the egg hunt and meal.

Children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades, divided into three age groups, sought out eggs containing prizes. Some held pieces of paper with a corresponding present available on the prize table. A few lucky hunters found cash  hidden in a few of the eggs.

Unexpected egg seekers joined the event a little early. The park's squirrels could be seen grabbing a couple of the colorful plastic eggs and taking them into the trees long before the children arrived.

Once the squirrels retrieved the "prize", the partially chewed containers were tossed back to the ground. Organizers were thankful most of the egg ended up in the baskets of their intended recipients — the children.

NACOGDOCHES – Applications are being accepted through April 25 for students to attend one of Nacogdoches Independent School District's magnet schools.

Children with interests in the arts, science and technology or learning a second language are perfect candidates for one of the three elementary-level schools.

Magnet school openings are available – including for students outside of the NISD attendance zone – for the 2014-2015 school year.

Spots in kindergarten, first and second grades are available at Emeline Carpenter Academy of Technology and Science and Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts.  Spots in kindergarten only are available at Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language.

Applications are available on the district Web site at NacISD.org under the Parents link, on all elementary campuses and at the NISD District Support Center, 420 S. Shawnee.
