NISD advisory committee

Nacogdoches ISD’s Bilingual and English as a Second Language Department is being honored for a second consecutive year. NISD will receive the Parent and Family Engagement Promising Practices Award in October.

The honor is sponsored by the Title I, Part A Parent and Family Engagement Statewide Initiative with the Region 16 Education Service Center in Amarillo.

The award recognizes and celebrates the contributions made by the department headed by Dr. Evelyn Sauceda, NISD’s Director of Bilingual and ESL, and the development of the “Alianza Conexión Hispana Advisory Committee,” a groundbreaking initiative that aims to enhance communication, representation of parents and stakeholders, and participation within our district.

Using a collaborative and innovative approach, Sauceda and the Bilingual and ESL Department have accomplished a number of goals while seeking to create more opportunities for students, families, school staff, and community members to actively participate in the school district's decision-making process, developing an open environment where every voice can be heard and every opinion matters, and bridging the gap between parents, students, community members and existing school committees.

The award spotlights the district’s commitment to creating an environment that prioritizes inclusivity, participation and continuous growth.

NISD implemented its plan by including students, parents, district staff and community stakeholders to communicate and share opportunities and concerns while generating possible solutions. Meetings also brought in key stakeholders and partners in the community to serve as guest speakers to an advisory committee, including NISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo and then city of Nacogdoches Mayor Jimmy Mize.
