Contestant at spelling bee

“The Professional Texans” from Fredonia Brewery were letter perfect Thursday night, winning Thomas J. Rusk Elementary’s fifth-annual Community-Wide Spelling Bee.

The team was made up of Danielle LaBauve, Chris LaBauve and Betty Jane Sahud.

Other award winners included “Speaker Smiles Brace for Success” from Speaker Orthodontics. Dr. Steven Speaker, Heather Barney and Sophie Oldmixon received the Best Team Spirit Award.

The “Homonym Hoppies” of Kimberly Teas, Jessica Michalowski and Maddie Griffin from Nikki Evans State Farm won Best Costume.

Twenty-eight teams participated in the Bee, which serves as a fundraiser for the campus. Sponsors included Serpro, Jamie Rodriguez State Farm, Etech, Gound Chevrolet, Borders, Cabrera Tire Shop, Flying J Ranch, Nikki Evans State Farm, Revolution Road Wood Fired Pizza, The Fredonia Hotel, Opifex, A&P Inflatables and M&S Pharmacy.

Also, First United Methodist Church, George Almarez Concrete, M&S Pharmacy, Nails 2000, Chick-Fil-A, Dr. Mark Shaw, Fredonia Brewery, Excel ER, Mike Perry Motors, Loblolly, Sigma Chi Eta Tau Fraternity, Raising Cane’s, Donna Finley – Friends of Travis Clardy, Beauty Maxx and Speaker Orthodontics.
