Social media threat determined not credible by NISD police

Nacogdoches High School was made aware this morning of a threat made on the social media app Snapchat. The post was immediately investigated by campus personnel and Nacogdoches ISD Police and the threat was determined to not be credible, and the individual responsible for creating the post was identified and will face disciplinary consequences in line with the Nacogdoches ISD Student Code of Conduct.

“There were no weapons found on the campus,” said NISD Chief of Police Sandra Murray. “It was a hoax that was not intended as a real threat.

“Fortunately, no one was harmed by the threat, nor were any actions taken by the individual who posted it.”

Murray said this is an opportunity for parents to remind their children that the district will take all reports of inappropriate comments and threats seriously. As such, students who make threats will be disciplined to the fullest extent allowable by law and district policy.

“Safety is our highest priority,” Murray said. “With parents’ help, we will continue our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students. We encourage you to help your child understand the serious implications that can result from inappropriate social media posts.”
