Students inducted into NISD/SFA Stem Academy

Twenty-eight soon-to-be Nacogdoches High School freshmen were inducted into the 11th cohort of the Nacogdoches ISD/SFA STEM Academy during a ceremony Monday in the Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The 28 students are finishing up their eighth-grade year at McMichael Middle School. Students inducted into the cohort include:

Colin Barugh, Kyra Blackmon, Eliza Boland, Triston Burrow, Tommy Clement, Morgan Douglas, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Ezra Gregory, Xavier Guardado and Kyndall Lambert.

Also, Vivian Long, Aleida Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Xochitl Martinez Arvizo, Anderson Montes, Jasmin Moreno, Zachary Morrill and Giselle Olvera.

Also, Bohodar Pantiuk, Karter Pate, Charles Pitts, Carlina Puffer, Lexy Salinas, Yaretzi Sauceda, Jocelyn Scanlan, Jennafer Smith, Rose Teater and Takbeem Zamadar.

As part of the STEM Academy at SFA, NHS students are exposed to rigorous science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum and investigative laboratory and field experiences. Students accepted into the cohort undergo a rigorous application process that began in January.

NISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo addressed the cohort during Monday's ceremony at SFA.
