Strong readers make the best students, and Nacogdoches ISD Literacy Coordinator Lauren Canty has some tips she wants to share with parents.
“The Race to Read” will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Nacogdoches Recreation Center, 1112 North St.
Canty will provide background information to support understanding of the foundational skills necessary for student literacy success and how best to create strong readers.
Parents will get an opportunity to walk through actual activities that can be completed at home that support literacy and reading. Parents attending NISD’s “Race to Read'' will receive activities to carry back home. Parents will also have an opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback on district literacy support systems and connect with other NISD parents.
The program is expected to last an hour, and light refreshments will be provided.
