Five projects from Nacogdoches High School have advanced to the state science fair later this month at Texas A&M University. One project has already earned a berth in the international competition held later this year.

Jade De La Garza and Brisa Rocha won the overall East Texas Regional Science Fair in Kilgore last month and earned the automatic bid to the international science fair that will be held in Atlanta, Ga. Jade’s and Brisa’s project, “Plant Growth With At-Home Soil Treatments” was in the Earth and Environmental Sciences division of the regional fair.

“That is an amazing accomplishment for Jade and Brisa,” said Linda Autrey, NISD’s Director of Advanced Academics. “All of our students did a wonderful job, and I’m thrilled we’re taking a large group to the state science fair.”
