Toni Saucedo, a senior at Nacogdoches High School has done it again, winning the medical poster competition at the HOSA – Future Health Professionals (formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America) Spring Leadership Conference. This is her fourth time being recognized for her artistic endeavors, and she will be attending the HOSA state conference in Austin this April.

“I don’t love the spotlight, I don’t want people to think that I am above or better than them, I don’t take my accomplishments as a status symbol over others, but as motivation that I am on the right track.” said Toni.

Toni’s artistic journey started in Pre-K with watercolor. She would come home and continue drawing and painting. Soon after her parents noticed, they decided to take her to a family friend who was an artist and Toni spent the next three years learning from her. Over time, her passion for art grew and has led her to where she is today.

As a senior, Toni has a big decision to make in what she should do going forward.

“I still am not 100% sure where I want to go," she said. "After winning the Congressional Art Competition last year, I received scholarships from SFA. If I want to continue my art, I feel like I should go to a bigger city like San Marcos or San Antonio. Many people say that pursuing a degree in art is not a good path, but I want to pursue something I enjoy.”
