Nacogdoches High School’s Andrew Rogers lifted a total of 1,860 pounds Saturday to win a state championship Saturday at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association meet in Abilene.
Rogers squatted 675 pounds, lifted 550 pounds in the bench press and deadlifted 635 pounds to win the Division 1 championship over 39 other state qualifiers in the 275-pound weight class. Division 1 at the state meet included competitors from Class 5A and 6A schools in Texas.
Rogers, a senior, topped second place by 40 pounds on Saturday and was 125 pounds ahead of third place. It was his second straight appearance at the state meet; in 2023, Rogers finished sixth overall.
Joining Rogers at the boys state championship meet was Amari Tatum, who competed in the 242-pound division. A week earlier, Jamesha Skinner made an appearance at the girls powerlifting state meet.
