Nacogdoches High School senior Avery Hardcastle has been selected as a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals All-State Academic Team.
As a member of the TASSP All-State Academic Team, Avery will be attending the annual Summer Workshop in Dallas in June where she will be recognized by the 2,000 secondary school principals in attendance. Avery will receive a $500 award and a commemorative plaque.
Avery, who just inked a letter of intent to run track at Stephen F. Austin State University, holds seven track and field records at Nacogdoches High School. She has qualified for the 800-meter run at the Class 5A, Region II track and field meet that will be held next week.
The All-State Academic Team award was designed to recognize Texas high school seniors for their academic achievements and focuses attention on the rewards of superior scholarship.
Seniors nominated by their high school principals based on their scores on the SAT or ACT standardized exams, overall academic grade point average, pursuit of an advanced diploma and other evidence of exceptional academic ability.
Each student nominated was asked to write a monitored 300- to 500-word essay to submit with their application. From this group of young scholars, only 20 were chosen for the All State Academic Team.
Avery is the daughter of Sara Hardcastle and Brian Hardcastle.
