Ms. Cramm and Ms. Howard's classes were the first two classes to finish reading all 20 Texas 2X2 books. As a prize, each student picked a book of their choosing that they get to keep. Happy Reading!

Ms. Rachel's class lucked out! They were able to visit with another author! Gaby Aldeman was supposed to virtually visit with another class but they were unable to come to the library. Gaby was flexible, had a crash course on how to use an interpreter and did her visit like a pro. Gaby read her book Paula's Patches. She explained to students what hand-me-downs are and read how Paula took something old or ripped and made it new again.

Ms. Rachel's upper grade students virtually visited with author & illustrator Anita Crawford Clark. Anita read her book Old To Joy and answered questions. One student wants to grow up and be an illustrator. Anita told her what to do to become the best
illustrator.

Ms. Boney's class is the only class Mrs. Taylor could not find an author to virtually visit with them. So instead, Mrs Taylor connected with Scholastic's StoryVoice. Students were able to watch author & illustrator Kazu Kibuishi (Amulet series) talk about his books and do some drawings.

Here's our 3rd virtual author visit on World Read Aloud Day! Author SA Rodriguez shared her book with Mr. Bennett's 5th graders. Students were impressed that she had seen a shark arm's length away from her and her son while snorkeling off the shores of Florida. She stayed calm and the shark swam away. Crazy!

For World Read Aloud Day Ms. Odunuga's 5th graders virtually met with author Susan Johnston Taylor. Susan read her animal poetry books to the students and answered questions. Students were fascinated to learn about the rare pink manta ray that lives in the waters around Lady Elliot Island. It's the only known pink manta ray.

Today is World Read Aloud Day. Ms. Rachel's students had a virtual visit with author Connie Bernstein Dow. Connie read her movement books to students while the students exercised along with the book. The students, Ms. Rachel and Mrs. Taylor got their workout done during this author visit!

Today 3rd grade students kicked off Texas Reads One Book. Three volunteers from the District Support Center came and read the first two chapters to students. Students will be able to keep the book Judy Moody is in a Mood. They also received a bookmark.

Mrs. Howards's 2nd grade readers practiced present and past tense irregular verbs by playing memory.

Ms. K. Howard's 2nd grade class used Oreos to demonstrate the moon phases.

3rd grade used Skittles to create different types of graphs and solve problems using the data.

ACE and the Boys and Girls Club are closed today. Please make sure your child's teacher knows how they will be going home.

It may be chilly outside, but our students were relaxing at the beach on the inside with their snow cone and a movie during lunch on Friday, January 12, 2024. Congratulations to each of our K-5 students who were rewarded for outstanding conduct! Let’s continue to encourage all of our students to have positive behaviors.

We'd love to see you there!

Glorious Angels by the Carpenter artists, grades k-2. We used scrap paper to tear our shapes and form them into angel silhouettes.

Mrs Rustin’s reading group talked about how even letters to Santa have sentence structure.

Season's Greetings!
You are invited to attend our 1st and 2nd Grade holiday musical, "Bear Stays Up for Christmas." (Please see the flyer attached.) If you are a parent of a 1st and 2nd Grader, please read the following message:
Dear Parents and/or Guardians of 1st and 2nd Grade Emeline Carpenter Students,
Your child will be a participant in this year’s holiday program, “Bear Stays Up for Christmas,” which will be held at the Carpenter Gym on Tuesday, December 12th at 5:00 p.m.
This performance will occur before Carpenter’s literacy night event, “Reading is ‘Snow’ Much Fun.” I am asking all participants to be in the music room at 4:40 p.m. so all students will have time to get in their places. For the performance, students will wear school-appropriate pajamas.
If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your support!
