Members of NHS Student Response Team

Nacogdoches High School law enforcement students faced a steeper challenge this month at the Texas Public Safety Association regional competition.

Not a problem as it turns out.

Realigned into a region including North Texas schools, NHS continued its run of outstanding performances, qualifying 22 students for the state competition that will take place April 3-5 in Allen.

The regional competition was held at Mansfield ISD’s Ben Barber Innovation Academy.

“Once again, our students just did a wonderful job across the board,” said Monica Newberg, who heads up law enforcement classes in the Career & Technical Education Department at NHS. “We saw students build upon their performances a year ago, and we saw new students come in and compete against a strong field.

“And, yes, the region we were placed in this year is more competitive, and our kids answered the call.”

The top two students or teams in each category move on to the state competition.

NHS students who finished first at the regional competition include:

Jessica Leon, Angel Lopez and Cha’Mya Pruitt in blood spatter analysis.

Jeeana Menefee and Gabriela Hernandez in correctional institute design.

Keyri Garcia and JaNiyia Williams in disturbance call.

Alexander Oliveros (right) won in fire agility and law enforcement agility. Yahir Escarcega finished second in fire agility and law enforcement agility.

Gabriela Hernandez in inmate processing.
