NHS junior Toni Saucedo shown with U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions

Toni Saucedo has twice been selected to display her artwork in Austin. Now she’s going to have her latest work shown in Washington, D.C.

Toni, a junior at Nacogdoches High School, was named the winner Friday in the Congressional Art Competition – Deep East Texas Region in the 17th District of Texas. U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions was on hand for the presentation at the Cole Art Center in downtown Nacogdoches.

Toni’s winning piece titled “Yesterday Was For Today, Today Is For Tomorrow” will be on display in the U.S. Capitol.

“Yesterday represents the past, all the people that worked, the people who fought and the people who protested,” Toni said during Friday’s presentation. “And everything that we do today will influence the people in the future, which is tomorrow.”

NHS ninth-grader Paulina Carrillo also entered a work into the competition. Toni’s art teacher at NHS is Carlene Higgins.
