Graduates throw their caps in the air

Graduation for the Class of 2023 is set for 8 p.m., Friday, May 26, at the William R. Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Admission is free, and no ticket is required to enter.

Graduating seniors must arrive at 7 p.m. and proceed to the holding area. (Appropriate dress requirements are stated in the Senior Letter and informational flyers provided to all graduating seniors.) Please also note that air horns and balloons are not allowed and will be confiscated at the door.

Project Graduation will take place immediately following graduation. Doors will open at 11 p.m., and seniors must have pre-registered to attend. Registration forms were issued on May 17, and those registrations must be returned by Monday, May 22, in order to participate.

Diploma pick-up will be Tuesday, June 6, in the NHS Commons. Students may continue to pick up their diplomas in the NHS Main office throughout the summer.

Before the Class of 2023 walks across the stage on May 26, a number of activities for NHS seniors will take place. The NHS Senior Sunset will take place at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 22, at Dragon Stadium. Food will be provided.

At 8:15 a.m., Friday, May 26, seniors will meet in the NHS Competition Gym for a cap and gown photograph of the entire class. Students are to wear their medals, cords and stoles and arrive dressed in their caps and gowns. Late arrivals will not be in the picture.

Following the photo, a required graduation practice will be held at Johnson Coliseum at 9:30 a.m., and students are encouraged to dress comfortably, while bringing a light jacket, as it is frequently chilly in the facility. Girls are also asked to bring the shoes they plan to wear in the evening to practice walking (there are many stairs to navigate).

The practice should conclude around noon or shortly thereafter.
