It’s 12 years running for Nacogdoches High School Student Council.
That’s how many times the NHS organization has been named Outstanding Student Council and Sweepstakes award winner at the state level.
To top it off, NHS StuCo is a National Gold Council of Excellence for a second straight year.
“I’m so proud of our students and their willingness to help our school and community,” said Aaron Cortes, science teacher at NHS and adviser for student council. “They are very deserving of this award, and I know they will continue to show that they are the future leaders of the world”
A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
“The remarkable accomplishments of our student council this year are a true testament to our exceptional leadership, creativity, and unwavering dedication to making a greater impact on our school and community,” said senior Anthony Stark, treasurer for NHS student council. “Our commitment to bettering the lives of the student experience has been made evident in the many initiatives, including the Peace Meal event, a great event that brought together students of all backgrounds to share a meal and learn about each other's cultures.”
NHS student council was recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils in the areas of Outstanding Student Council; Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health; Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment. StuCo also completed submission of its Community Service Report.
