Dr. Evelyn Sauceda with NISD staff

Nacogdoches ISD’s Director of Bilingual Education Dr. Evelyn Sauceda has received the Leader of the Year Award that will be presented later this summer at the 2023 Hybrid Title III Symposium in San Antonio.

Sauceda was surprised with the news Tuesday by Tracy Shamon, Coordinator III – Federal, State & Local Initiatives with Region 20 Education Service Center. Shamon came to Nacogdoches to announce the award.

“I’m grateful for this verification of what we’re doing, but it wouldn’t be possible without this team,” Sauceda said, acknowledging the district’s bilingual department. “And I’m grateful and proud of the support I receive from Nacogdoches ISD.”

Winners of the Leader of the Year award exhibit strong support for students and educators, communities and families, and sharing teaching and learning expertise.

“Dr. Sauceda does outstanding work for NISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo. “She has a true passion for the work she does, and our students and instructional staff benefit from her dedication to the cause of bilingual education.”

The 2023 Hybrid Title III Symposium will take place in San Antonio on July 17-18.

Tracy Shamon with Region 20 Education Service Center was on hand Tuesday for the presentation to Dr. Evelyn Sauceda.

Dr. Sauceda's family was on hand along with the district's bilingual staff.
