We’re full into summer right now, which means there is a lot going on around the district:

A number of projects are underway around the district, including at Dragon Stadium. Work on the press box on the home side – which is part of the bond package – is progressing. If you remember, we’re not expanding the size of that press box but we will place another press/coaches box on the visitors side of the stadium.

Also, repairs on the field at Dragon Stadium are moving along. The heavy rain event of last month had damaged the eight-year-old turf at the stadium, requiring replacement of the artificial surface. Hellas Construction is making repairs to the base before the new turf goes in during the coming weeks. You might remember, we also had to readjust lighting at the stadium because of strong thunderstorm winds that had moved the light fixtures at the top of the poles.

Also at Dragon Stadium, the homeside parking lot is being resurfaced, making for a LOT of activity right now around the high school.

Repairs are continuing in the band hall at Nacogdoches High School. That’s not related to the flooding of last month… that’s from the flooding that occurred in December during a cold snap that caused pipes to burst in the band hall.

Here’s some more good news… everyone is back at the District Support Center after it was straightened up following the flooding of last month. ServePro got it cleaned up, necessary repairs were completed, and staff began moving back right after Memorial Day. Needless to say, we’re glad to be back there! Also, a big thank you to Mr. Z for providing us a place to land at the Fredonia Early Childhood Center!

Nacogdoches ISD’s Director of Bilingual Education Dr. Evelyn Sauceda has received the Leader of the Year Award that will be presented next month at the 2023 Hybrid Title III Symposium in San Antonio. Sauceda was surprised with the news May 30 by Tracy Shamon, Coordinator III – Federal, State & Local Initiatives with Region 20 Education Service Center. Winners of the Leader of the Year award exhibit strong support for students and educators, communities and families, and sharing teaching and learning expertise. Congratulations to Dr. Sauceda!
