Ava Whitaker

Ava Whitaker set a slew of Nacogdoches High School swim records during the 2022-23 season, brought home a Class 5A title and inked an athletic scholarship with Indiana University.

Whitaker’s name is now all over the Dragons’ record book. And her times during the season were among some of the best in the nation. She posted the eighth-fastest time nationally in the girls 100-yard butterfly, and her time in the 200-yard individual medley was 29th-fastest in the country.

Whitaker, a member of the Class of 2023 at NHS, is keeping busy this summer.

In June, Whitaker was at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Indianapolis. (CLICK HERE for the story from the Daily Sentinel.) The lineup in Indianapolis included swimmers posting the fastest times in the country during the last year and included Olympic qualifiers.

Later this month, Whitaker will swim at the Speedo Summer Junior Nationals against the top qualifiers age 18-and-under. At the meet in Irvine, Calif., Whitaker will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Olympic trials in the 100 and 200 butterfly.
