Superintendent Announcements – Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo

You might remember that back in May, Dr. Evelyn Sauceda, our Director of Bilingual Education, was notified she received the Leader of the Year Award, which was presented to her earlier this month at the 2023 Hybrid Title III Symposium in San Antonio. Just before she received that award, Dr. Sauceda was named Regional Loyal Leader of the Year at the Emergent Bilingual conference Thursday at Region VII Education Service Center. Congratulations Dr. Sauceda!
We’re seeing progress at Dragon Stadium. Work is continuing on repairing the subsurface beneath the field and replacing the playing surface, which was damaged back in May by the heavy rains that flooded much of Nacogdoches. The eight-year-old artificial turf field was torn in several places, and we opted to go ahead and replace it at this time, something we knew was coming up in the next year or two anyway. You might have noticed crews have shifted to night work to escape the worst of the summer heat. That means the stadium has been lit up while the crews are there from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Ralph Larue and our Plant Services staff are overseeing a number of projects around the district, including at Dragon Stadium. Work on the press box on the home side – which is part of the bond package – is complete. You can see the new graphics on the back of the home stands, which overlook the newly resurfaced parking on the west side of the stadium. In addition to renovating the existing press box, we will place another press/coaches box on the visitors side of the stadium to try to give everyone – including our students operating the video board – some elbow room.
Plant Services also oversaw demolition of the Lenvill B. Martin Building in June, and now crews are removing the former Emeline Carpenter building. Needless to say, it’s been a busy summer for Ralph and his crew.
Online registration is underway for all students who will be attending Nacogdoches ISD this year. You can find registration information at our website, NacISD.org. I know our parents are receiving regular reminders through email, social media posts and the NISD app. Registration is also open for students planning on riding NISD buses this year, and those links can also be found at NacISD.org.
Clearly, you can tell by these items that the start of the new school year is upon us. Teachers report Tuesday, Aug. 1; convocation is set for Friday, Aug. 11; and the first day of class is Wednesday, Aug. 16. It is here!
Dr. Trujillo also provided an update on the state accountability ratings that will be released in September.
