Angel Bonilla De La Torre and Melody Shewmake used oil and soft pastels to create works that are part of a project titled Winter Landscape at Raguet Elementary where both children are students.
Sept. 10-16 is National Arts in Education Week, and Nacogdoches ISD students are discussing and creating activities that allow students to show their love for art.
Angel’s and Melody’s art teacher at Raguet is Tanya San Nicolas. She said the class used the assignment to learn about blending soft pastels and using oil pastels, which are, as the name suggests, oily., Soft pastels are typically chalky.
As part of the project, students put down the soft pastels first then added the oil on top. The teacher, San Nicolas, then used hair spray on the surface to help hold the materials adhere to the surface.
