Percell Warren, who spent his entire 38 years in public education with Nacogdoches ISD as a teacher, counselor and assistant principal, died last week. He was 88.
Warren joined NISD in 1958, shortly after receiving his college degree. Warren was a biology teacher at E.J. Campbell High School; the campus served the district’s Black students before integration took place.
After 16 years in the classroom, Warren was named a counselor in the district, and after two years, was promoted to the position of assistant principal at Nacogdoches High School, a role he filled for 20 more years before retiring in 1996.
Even after retirement, Warren came back and worked as a part-time safety officer for NISD. For years, he also manned the clock and scoreboard controls at Nacogdoches High School basketball games.
Warren was a Navasota native and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1958 from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin. In 1962, Warren received a Master of Education degree from Prairie View A&M University.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 30, in the Nacogdoches High School gymnasium in the 9th-grade building. Visitation is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, March 29, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.
