Four students holding their artworks

Nacogdoches ISD has been named a Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction once again, one of 109 school districts around Texas to receive the Visual Arts Award for the 2024-25 academic year.

The Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA, recognizes school districts with outstanding leadership in promoting the arts in their district and community.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor for the entire visual arts program at Nacogdoches ISD,” said Deshmond Johnson, the district’s Director of Fine Arts. “Our high school students produce outstanding works, and that creativity is nurtured from the earliest grades thanks to the district’s commitment to arts education.

“We are proud to have such talented students and devoted teachers who inspire, guide, and lead in the classroom every day.”

NISD’s visual arts program met or exceeded a rigorous 14-point rubric administered by TAEA. The rubric looks closely at the district's visual art program from participation in TAEA through membership, exhibitions, contests and community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service, and collaboration with other content areas.

NISD will be honored at the TAEA District of Distinction Awards Ceremony Nov. 21 during the organization’s fall conference in Round Rock.
