Nacogdoches ISD has updated its cell phone policy for the 2025-26 academic year to match new requirements related to House Bill 1481, the new law enacted earlier this year by the Texas Legislature. HB 1481 bans the use of cell phones on school property during the instructional day.
The policy applies to headphones/earbuds, tablets, and any other electronic device that is capable of telecommunication.
Elementary
All cell phones must be turned off and stored in a backpack before the start of instruction. Any cell phone that is seen will be confiscated.

1st Offense: Cell phone taken up and returned at the end of the day.
2nd Offense: Cell phone taken up and parent will pick it up.
3rd and Subsequent Offenses: Cell phone taken up, parent conference to pick up phone.
Secondary (Grades 6-12)
All cell phones must be turned off and put away before the student enters the building. Cell phones may not be carried in pockets, hoodies, or otherwise on a student’s person; cell phones must be stored in a backpack or left in a vehicle throughout the entire school day.

Any cell phone that is seen will be confiscated.
At Nacogdoches High School and McMichael Middle School, cell phones may be turned back on after the final bell of the day.
1st Offense: Warning, cell phone confiscated, parent pick-up.
2nd offense: 3 Days lunch detention, cell phone confiscated, parent pick-up.
3rd offense: 5 days ISS, cell phone confiscated, parent pick-up.
4th offense: cell phone confiscated, parent pick-up, possible DAEP placement.
