Two changes go into effect this month relating to how Nacogdoches ISD conducts its regular monthly school board meetings.
At the next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 18, trustees will no longer wait until 6 p.m. to start the open session of meetings. Trustee meetings begin at 5 p.m., and the board moves directly into closed session. Now, once the executive session is complete and trustees return to open session, the NISD board will move immediately into that night’s business.
NISD is also eliminating the agenda review that normally took place at noon on Mondays prior to the regular board meeting on the third Thursday of the month. Senate Bill 12, a new state law adopted this spring by Texas legislators, requires districts schedule school board meetings outside “typical work hours.”
This week's Board of Trustees meeting will begin at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, at the E.J. Campbell building at 420 S. Shawnee St. A livestream of the meeting will be available on the district’s YouTube channel Nacogdoches ISD.
Anyone wishing to address the board in person during public comment portions of the meeting will be required to file a request no later than one hour before the meeting’s scheduled start time. Those requests can be submitted by email at administration@nacisd.org or in person at the District Support Center, 4632 NE Stallings Dr., Nacogdoches, TX 75965.
