Welding students

Sixteen Nacogdoches High School students received $500 scholarships to The Ocean Corporation on Wednesday during the Texas Rice Festival Welding competition at Lee College in Baytown. The Ocean Corporation is an underwater diving and welding school in Houston.

Twelve NHS students also passed a visual inspection on their work and earned an industry-based certification from the American Welding Society.

A total of 29 students traveled to Baytown with welding teacher Heather Hill.

“This is just the beginning of what’s in store for these students,” said Hill. “I congratulate them, and look forward to what’s coming next.”

Students receiving their certification: Aaron Faires, Ashton Castillo, Jonathan Ramirez, Seth Sanders, Kevin Castillo, Jose Galicia-Hernandez, Chance Garber, Erick Leon-Marquez, Rodrigo Medrano, Lilly Nelson, Bryan Rodriguez and Gavin Stott.
