Four Nacogdoches High School art students scored 4 out of 4 at the Texas Art Educators Association contest held Feb. 14 at Pine Tree High School. The students earned medals for their submissions to the regional competition.
Alicia Dowell, Avonlea Grimes, Isabelle Turnham and Luigy Garcia earned top scores with their works:
• Alicia submitted a ceramic relief titled “He Watches” and a mixed media work titled “Neromiah,” which earned a perfect score.
• Avonlea submitted an acrylic painting “Kuchisake-Onna” and a ceramic vase “A Sahara’s Bloom” that earned a perfect score.
• Isabelle’s paper maché and mixed media sculpture earned a perfect score and was titled “They Littered Anyway.”
• And Luigy Garcia submitted an ink drawing “Stillness After the Storm.”
Other participants from NHS include:
• Pepper Hill, mixed media “The Astronomer” (red head)
• Ja Niyah Blanton, graphite and ink “Chizuki” (long braids)
• Lillian Nelson, paper mache sculpture “Lemon Shark” (tall girl with shag haircut)
All of the works mentioned above will be featured at Nacogdoches ISD’s annual Fine Arts Showcase April 11, part of a larger collection displaying student work from campuses across the district.
