The Nacogdoches boys track and field team finished fourth in the district standings last week in Hallsville with 65 points.
Micah Lockett cleared 7-feet, 2-inches in the high jump to win the district title and begin his first step towards defending last year’s state championship.
Braylon Horton won both hurdle events, finishing in 37.85 seconds in the 300 and 14.47 in the 110. Jonas Hollins finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.75.
The 4x100 relay team of Kenneth Page, Jones, Evan Mosley, and Hollins finished third. The 4x400 relay team of Samiel Guenther, Darion Brown, Micah Lockett, and Joel Jones; which had posted the fastest time in the area, seemingly finished second until a disqualification was assessed against the team for a lane merged violation.
Also advancing to the area meet is Ashton Hale, who finished third in the high jump. Kaden Brooks, Brown, and Guenther will all attend the meet as alternatives.
The area track and field meet is on Friday in Mount Pleasant and features qualifiers from District 9-5A and 10-5A. Top qualifiers from area will advance to the Class 5A Region II meet on May 1-2 at the University of Texas-Arlington.
“All of the Dragon boys' tracksters performed well and made us proud of their effort,” said coach Jay Brown. “The meet didn’t go as we planned, but that's why you have to just keep working to get better knowledge of all rules.”
